Akoha![]()
Akoha is a new reality-based game that uses mobile, web and real-world missions to create a new form of game play. Akoha was founded by Austin Hill and Alex Eberts, long-time friends and entrepreneurs who first worked together when Hill co-founded Zero-Knowledge Systems (now Radialpoint) and Eberts served as its founding product manager. The idea for Akoha came from a series of discussions after the founders attended the TED Conference in Monterey, where the theme was “Ideas Big Enough to Change the World,” and the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, where their friends were discussing "movies that can make a difference." Their conversations about game design, social change and Internet trends led co-founders Hill and Eberts to ask the question, "What if playing a game could make the world a better place?" On April 28, 2008, Akoha announced it had received $1.9 million in financing from angel investors. |
Atmosphir![]()
Atmosphir is a free platformer game / design tool hybrid for Mac or PC. Designers can create huge 3D interactive adventures, and then share them with an online community. You don't have to be an expert programmer - building levels is as simple as selecting blocks (such as a sand castle tower, fireball-breathing bird, or trap door) and snapping them onto a grid. With intuitive controls and low performance requirements, anyone can play, design, compete or collaborate. |
PlaYce![]()
The exciting promise of the 3D Web has disappointingly emerged solely as a place for stunning avatars to flirt with mutant humanoid creatures. What about 3D gaming on the web? Are we doomed to flat, simple 2D games if we want a quick, fun diversion? PlaYce is "Making the World a Playground" by providing a 3D virtual world for games, based on the real world. PlaYce's technology reconstructs the entire world in 3D and streams it with high frame rate from within the browser, providing an immersive, "Mirror World" gaming experience without a heavy client download. Gamers come to plaYce for synchronous social games, with high-end gameplay and graphics, easily linking to their existing social network friends and IM buddy lists. Independent game developers come to plaYce for Game-Infrastructure-as-a-Service, which enables them to design games situated anywhere in the world, while saving 50-75% of development costs and time to market. |
